Identity Crisis (Fold)

Who taught you to hate your skin?
Yes! Who?
You are willing to allow your melanin pride be stripped away from you
They have robbed you of your worth
They have shackled your mind as they did in the days of slavery
Beautiful, black boys and girls
Finding themselves in situations
Diminishing who they are
You stare in the mirror
Wishing you wouldn’t be killed by the blue-eyed, blonde hair, modern-day Nazis
Hate is what caused the Holocaust
And we see dead men and women walking every day
You don’t know who you truly are
You need to be reminded that God doesn’t make ugly
He believes in diversity
And although your face or body doesn’t look like what is acceptable
You matter in every sense of the word to Him
He spends time on those who He fashions
Intentionally folds and molds as He pleases
So wear your skin with pride
You are royalty
Purpose runs through your veins
You are who He says you are
Society’s perceptions of who you are supposed to be are invalid
Fix your crown and see yourself the way God sees you
Because He sees you
