Fight Club: The Conduct

You watched me while situations took me apart
The simplest of moments
Were very detailed
Hostage situations
Near-death experiences

You watched me
Held my hand
When I was compelled to push you away
You heard them
My screams from the lowest hell
When the pressures of life
Shattering me in the darkest places
Glass rivaled the sound of heart
You cried with me
Worried even

You watched me
Fight
Talked me down
Talked me up
Pushed me a little closer to the breath of God
You’re the reason I still breathe
You
The fight club
When no one else saw the punches
When no one else saw the beatings I took
When no one else saw the knife wounds on my chest
You took up the responsibility to care
Even when I feared I would hurt you too
When I cut you with my words
You remained here
Your conduct gave me staying power
Your sister’s keeper, I suppose

You watched me
Grow
And this mess of a woman that you see
Is still the woman you prayed for
Laboured for

Daily
Nightly
Freely
Lovingly
An incomplete system
Still of worth
You saw the reason to fight within me
Thank you for not giving up on me
