Tired Ones

We are them
We are the tired ones
Tired of seeing the world in a crisis
Feeling like we are unable to move mountains
Even when our faith is bigger than our mountains

We are them
The overcommitted
Abused because we refuse to say no to the broken-hearted
Then we get worn out because of our kindness

We are tired
Tired of sensing a lack of appreciation from the lips of gossipers and menaces
We have tried to hold up the banner of Christ for so long
But worship feels like work
It is as if all we know is our duty to push the gospel out

We are the tired ones
Enslaved to anger within us
We’ve loved until our hearts got smaller
We have our own battles to fight
We have our own tears to cry
We try to make it through the day with a smile on our faces
But things remain the same
A cycle
Something God did not want for us

When will rest come?
Illusions seem to be our reality
The ones with hope are tired
Burdened by every experience that seems to pop up
Raising its ugly head
And truth has somehow subsided
We still try
We try because we love God beyond measure
We try because the world needs to change
We try
But amidst it all
We are still the tired ones
